More than a likeness, a fine art portrait is an interpretation. It’s as much about the artist as their subject, neither of which exists in a vacuum. At best, it draws you into a dialogue that’s been ongoing for millennia.
Commercial photographs are used for publication or business, allowing for a wide range of subject matter. People in their environments–environmental portraiture–is a genre of particular interest to me as an opportunity to visualize a person’s relationship to their surroundings.
